My entry for the Tomb raider reborn contest 
. This here, was a whole lot of work, a loooooot. You are looking at 120 hours of sketching, drawing, painting and and additional colouring in this. All to provide these people with the best I could possibly manage. This started off with me thinking I would not stand a bloody chance, but the idea for a concept I got later that night had to be done. I decided to do the reborn theme in a way I have always known in the tomb raider games, physical. I made a stone phoenix above a mirror, carved into the cave walls. To be reborn she would have to deal with the things of the past holding her back. She shot the mirror apart with an arrow, and with it who she once was, without losing herself. Pose had to be strong too and the mirror needed fire to fit with the phoenix. The wings of the bird are glaas like as if fire burns behind it, and in concepts on the official sites I saw some pictures of shrines with candles, therefore I placed candles at the tree roots. Trees are there to provide a more man along with nature thing I have noticed in some of the art as well. Eventually I can say I am really proud of this piece of art, which is done with traditional media only, pencil, paint and pastels to be exact. please put this on full view, it's worth it.

Vision Originality Technique ImpactYou wrote, how many works were with this art of yours, and how proud you are of this. And you know, you should be proud! The scenery of the owl and the candles is really amazing, and the idea is brilliant, I like your concept of the mirror, how to destroy a part of us and creating a new one without losing ourselves.
The lights of the candles and arroundings are nicely detailed and dramatic, as probably you wished for. The arrow, what Lara shot in the mirror, is in a whole differrent angle, it's impossible for Lara to shoot it like that from where she's standing. Was it purposeful?
About Lara. I have to admit, I like the textures. I mean, the skin, it's really dirrty, has sratches, you're really good with it! The materials and their shadows are fine too. The face maybe would needed a little bit more work, I feel what you want to show in her expression, but it can't come over it. The mouth remained too white, the whole needs a bit more contrast. more shadows for the nose for example. The left hand's fingers are too long. The hair is gorgeous, just as light as it have to be. Her pose tells me, how strong she is, and from there she is a different person. Good choice.
The left side of the picture - why remained it so sketchy? Light shadows, so less colourful, absolutley different from the other side. More black, or more colour, it's looks like blank for me. It takes you attention in the center of the cave, but it's embarassing for me a little bit.
But about the whole pic - absolutley worth of the work. I feel the spirit of 'Tomb Raider' when I look at it, and the concept is amazing. I wish you the best on the contest!
